Creation:Haela

Somewhere in the metaverse, Haela was born in the world of the beings with wings. Haela was gifted with the power to control light. Talented in swordsmanship, she could rival many of her superiors as a child. Her younger sister, Ashira, however, had no such ability. Everything Haela could do in terms of ability, and strength, her sister lacked in. Ashira was seen as not normal when compared to her sister and peers. Nonetheless Haela loved her sister. One day a crack in metaverse appeared and Ashira went through it. With Ashira missing and no one seeming to care, Haela went in search of her sister.

Haela started off as an idea to create a character that wanted to fight for righteousness. The beginning designs we had for her were developed with the desire to want her to be beautiful intelligent and strong. We had Andy, our artist, come up with three designs for her.

(From left to right) The first design was for a maiden-like appearance. The next design was for a warrior-like appearance. The last design was a mixture of the two so we went forward with that design. Next was to choose a colorway…

(From left to right) There were too many different shades of pink in this first one. It was good to see what it would look like though. However, we felt that this colorway was lackluster. The next one had too many shades of blue. Like the first colorway, too many different shades made it hard to focus on the character. This last colorway was great! However, we felt it did not embody the idea of an angelic character. So we proceeded with one more attempt. The gold accents in this one made it feel like she was holy and angelic. The colors complemented her attire and wings.

Next we will go over the illustrations.

Each illustration sketch was wonderfully done. (From left to right) The first image showed a more queen like personality. We wanted to make her a princess instead of a queen. The next one made her feel like she was in combat. Not bad. However, we wanted her body language to be towards the viewers. The next one felt like the sword overtook Haela. We decided on the last sketch because Haela stood out and it felt like she was angelic, beautiful and more inviting towards the viewer.

Next was adding the colors, rendering the image and completion!

While finalizing the design, the image that Andy had in mind for her was that of an Ice Queen. A cool beauty who hides her loving side beneath a stoic mask. Overall, the process went great. The final illustration brought out what we really wanted to show our viewers. Haela, The Prodigy Princess.
